The Kernersville Bulldogs summer collegiate team pounded the Burlington Royals in a preseason exhibition game Tuesday night at Burlington Athletic Park 15-2.
The Bulldogs used 3-5 hitting nights from Ray Crawford(WSSU), Brandon Burkes(GTCC)and a Grand Slam homer from Kevin Jordan(Wake Forest) to pace the 11 hit night on offense. Crawford and Burkes had two runs scored apiece as did Chris Corbett(Rollins University).
The Bulldogs had five stolen bases and numerous standout defensive plays on the night in the win.
Travis Tuttle(App) hurled four innings of one hit baseball in picking up his first win of the year. Brennen James(Uncg) and Avery Rogers of Guilford and Alex Embler(CVCC) also had solid pitching performances on the night.
The win pushes Kernersville’s early record to 12-4 on the summer.

Bulldogs defeat minor league affiliate Burlington Royals
The Kernersville Bulldogs picked up their first win in franchise history over the Kansas City Royals minor league affiliate Burlington Royals on Tuesday night in Burlington, NC in grand fashion by a score of 15-2.
The Kernersville offense exploded for fifteen runs on eleven hits against the highly touted Burlington Royals pitching staff. Kernersville’s Brandon Burkes and Ray Crawford each went 3-for-5 and Kevin Jordan added a grand slam as the Bulldogs put up four multi-run innings in the game.
Travis Tuttle picked up the win for the Bulldogs in relief after tossing four innings allowing only one hit and striking out three. Bulldog pitchers struck out nine in the game.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they host the Greensboro Reds at Glenn High School. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
Dale Ijames does a great job with his college players.Brandon Burkes should have been drafted by a MLB Team. The kid has the tools and wants to give it a shot. To many of these new young scouts depend on the computer and can’t recognize talent when it is right in front of them.

Burkes has tremendous athletic ability. Unfortunately for him, batting 260 in junior college doesn’t get you drafted. I understand he had a scholarship to play somewhere in Tennessee or Kentucky- not sure if he is still headed up that way or not. Hope so…
