HIGH POINT, NC – Sophomore Christine Rickert of the High Point University women’s track & field team was named the Big South Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, the league announced Friday.
Rickert claimed the 2014 Big South title in the javelin with a throw of 154’ 11”. She won the event by over 24 feet. She also was named the Big South Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on April 9 as she broke her VertKlasse Meeting record with a throw of 155’ 1.0”.
Rickert advanced to the NCAA Preliminary for the second straight year and placed 18th. She threw the javelin a season-best 47.49 meters (155-9). Rickert’s best throw of the event came on her first attempt. The top 16 advanced to the finals of the event. Rickert was the only HPU women’s track athlete competing in the meet. At last year’s NCAA Preliminary in Greensboro, N.C., she placed 23rd.
