THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Weston Wilson and Glen Batson combined for four RBIs, but it wasn’t enough as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms lost a rain-shortened game to the Columbia Blowfish, 5-4.

After tacking on two runs in the top of the second without recording a hit, Columbia came out swinging in the top of the third. With a 2-0 lead, J.D. Crowe led off the frame with a single before Michael Bell cranked a two-run homer to left-center. Two pitches later, Nick Pappas smacked a solo shot to right field, extending the Blowfish’s lead to 5-0.

Aside from Glen Batson’s RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth inning, the HiToms were held at bay until the bottom of the seventh. After Austin Crutcher (jr., Bellarmine) singled with one out and Jared Allen (jr., Middle Tennessee State) drew a walk, Weston Wilson smoked a three-run homer to right field pulling the HiToms within one, 5-4.

In the top of the eighth inning with a runner at first, rain came down heavily and play stopped. The game was officially called after an hour and a half rain delay.

The HiToms will finish their home-and-home series against the Blowfish Saturday at Capital City Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
