Bill McCord Joins Elon Football Coaching Staff

ELON, N.C. – Elon University head football coach Rich Skrosky has announced that Bill McCord has joined the Phoenix staff as a defensive assistant. In a related move, Patrick Madden will now coach Elon’s defensive line and continue to serve as a special teams assistant.

Said Skrosky, “I am excited to have Bill join our staff. I have been following Bill all the way back to his high school days when he played for the long-time, well-respected New Jersey high school coach Chuck Donohue. As Bill worked into the college ranks he spent time at Princeton University working under a coach I have respected for a long time in Bob Surace. Bill has the skill set we are looking for in this position and will make an easy transition with our defensive staff.”

On his decision to join the Elon staff, McCord said, “This is a great opportunity and a great time to be here at Elon. This program is joining the CAA, one of the top leagues in the nation, and I’m excited to get the ball rolling. Coach Skrosky has a fantastic track record and has had a lot of success, especially here at Elon.”

McCord comes to Elon after two seasons at Bowdoin College where he served as the defensive backs coach. In that time, the Polar Bears posted 16 interceptions. He also worked with special teams units.

Prior to his time at Bowdoin, McCord spent two seasons with the Princeton Tigers as both a linebackers and cornerbacks coach.

McCord has also made coaching stops at Bucknell University (2008-09) where he coached cornerbacks, Franklin & Marshall College (2007) where he was the defensive backs coach, as an assistant coach at Southern Regional High School (2005-06) in New Jersey and at Western Connecticut State University (2004) as the cornerbacks coach.

McCord graduated from Western Connecticut State with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was a four-year letter-winner for the Colonials.
