HiToms Close First Half with Tight Loss

HIGH POINT-THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Jordan Simons struck out six batters in his six innings of work Monday, but it wasn’t enough as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms closed the first half of the Coastal Plain League season with a loss to the Fayetteville SwampDogs 3-1.

Fayetteville (12-14) got a solo homer from Michael Bozarth and a bases-loaded RBI walk in the top of the third to give the SwampDogs a 2-0 lead. The HiToms (12-16) got to Fayetteville starter Rayne Raven (2-1) for a single run in the bottom of the sixth when Glen Batson (rs fr., Clemson) hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Des Roberts (rs jr., UNC-Charlotte) who reached on an error. However, it’s as close as the HiToms got as Raven pitched seven innings allowing the lone unearned run scattering six hits while walking three and punching out six.

The HiToms’ Jordan Simons (rs fr., Louisville – 1-2) was the hard luck loser as he allowed two runs on just three hits while walking and striking out six batters each.

High Point-Thomasville will start the second half of the CPL season at home as they face the Asheboro Copperheads Wednesday on Shuler Meats Dollar Night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 P.M.
