HiToms Felled By Forest City

FOREST CITY, N.C. – Hunter Bryant hit his league-leading sixth home run of the season Saturday as the Forest City Owls beat the High Point-Thomasville HiToms 8-6.

The HiToms took an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame when Des Roberts (rs jr., UNC-Charlotte) hit a RBI single to center field. Forest City (20-13, 3-2) didn’t take long to respond, however, as first baseman Hunter Bryant clocked a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the first, tying the game at one apiece. The Owls continued their offensive assault scoring twice in the second and once in the third.

High Point-Thomasville (13-18, 1-2) was held at bay trailing 4-1 until the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Roberts’ sacrifice fly to center field notched the HiToms’ second run of the game. Two batters later with the bases loaded, right fielder Austin Crutcher (jr., Bellarmine) smacked a bases-clearing triple driving in three and giving the HiToms a 5-4 lead. It didn’t last long though as Forest City grabbed the lead back for good scoring two runs in the bottom half and added single runs in the seventh and the eighth.

The HiToms look to get back in the win column Monday as the Asheboro Copperheads come to Finch Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 P.M.
