USA Collegiate Team Blanks Japan

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Carson Fulmer threw six shutout innings and Mark Mathias drove in three runs Sunday as USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team rode a balanced attack to victory over Japan’s Collegiate National Team 10-0 at Finch Field.

Team USA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a RBI single from Bryan Reynolds (Vanderbilt) and a two-run double from Mark Mathias (Cal Poly). Just an inning later, the red, white, and blue doubled that lead with RBI doubles from Reynolds and Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt) while D.J. Stewart (Florida State) chipped in with a RBI single of his own giving Team USA a 6-0 lead.
Mathias and Tate Matheny (Missouri State) each hit solo home runs in the victory.

Starting pitcher Carson Fulmer (Vanderbilt, 1-0) threw six scoreless innings allowing one hit and three walks while striking out four. Andrew Moore (Oregon State) notched his first save of the summer season by pitching three scoreless innings in relief.

The High Point-Thomasville HiToms return to Finch Field Monday night as they face the Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
