THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Brody Koerner pitcher eight solid innings as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms beat the Asheboro Copperheads 8-4.

High Point-Thomasville (14-18, 2-2) never trailed in this game. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. CPL All-Star Des Roberts (rs jr., UNC-Charlotte) drilled a RBI single to center field and Alec Paradowski (so., Wofford) scored on a wild pitch from third base a batter later.

In the bottom of the second inning, the HiToms stretched the lead without the ball leaving the infield. With runners on first and second and no outs, Logan Taylor (fr., Louisville) laid a bunt single down the third base line when a throwing error allowed both runs to score and put him at third base. Paradowski drove him in with a RBI groundout extending the HiToms’ lead to 5-0.

Asheboro (14-18, 2-3) wouldn’t make it easy though. Trailing 6-3 in the top of the eighth inning, Copperhead catcher Austin Bossart smacked a solo homer to left field pulling Asheboro within two. The HiToms responded with two runs in the bottom half, however, as Spencer Mahoney (jr., Valparaiso) drilled a RBI double to left field and Taylor followed him with a RBI sacrifice fly to center field giving them a 8-4 lead.

HiToms starting pitcher Brody Koerner (so., Clemson – 2-1) weaved in and out of trouble all night allowing four runs (three earned) and scattering five hits while walking four and striking out three.

The HiToms look to continue their winning ways at home against the Martinsville Mustangs Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 P.M.
