HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conner Scarborough has joined the High Point University baseball staff as the new Director of Operations, head coach Craig Cozart announced on Wednesday. Scarborough joins the Panthers with extensive knowledge of the Big South after playing at Gardner-Webb.

“Conner Scarborough is a tremendous addition to our staff here at HPU,” Cozart said. “He comes from a great family and has extensive ties to the local community. He embodies the character and work ethic that we value throughout our entire university and his knowledge of the game of baseball will be instrumental in our continued success on the field.”

Scarborough was a pitcher with the Runnin’ Bulldogs from 2009-13. He was named the Pitcher of the Year in 2013 after appearing in a team-high 27 games and finishing with a 2.45 ERA. Scarborough is ranked in the top 10 in the GWU all-time record books in appearances, innings pitched, ERA and walks per nine innings.

After graduating from Gardner-Webb, Scarborough worked for six months as a Strength and Speed Trainer at Carolina Acceleration and for six months as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at Wofford College.

Scarborough is currently serving as an assistant coach this summer on the staff of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms in the Coastal Plains League, a wood bat collegiate summer league. He previously worked as the HiToms’ Senior Legion team’s pitching coach in 2013 and the Junior League team’s head coach in 2012.

A native of High Point, N.C., Scarborough graduated from High Point Christian Academy. He was a two-time All-Conference selection and was twice named to the All-State team. Scarborough was named an NCSAA All-American as a senior after leading his prep team to the 2009 NCISSA Class 2A State Championship, going 11-1 with a 1.00 ERA on the season while striking out 118 batters.
