Eastern Randolph gets past Ahoskie on Sunday in Junior Legion Baseball, 10-7

Eastern Randolph Post 81 take out Ahoskie with help from Dylan Smith, 10-7

Dylan Smith went 4-4 at the plate, helping Eastern Randolph Post 81 to a 10-7 victory over Ahoskie on Sunday. He singled in the first, third, fourth, and sixth innings.

Nate Cockman got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over six innings. He struck out three, walked four and surrendered five hits.

Parker Cline was charged with the loss. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Eastern Randolph Post 81 scored two runs on an RBI double by Drake Matthews and an RBI single by Smith.

Eastern Randolph Post 81 scored one run in each of the third, fifth and sixth. In the third, Eastern Randolph Post 81 scored on an RBI double by Matthews, bringing home Smith.

Eastern Randolph Post 81 added five more runs in the top of the fourth. Nick Nelson’s single got things going. That was followed up by Connor Shipley’s single, scoring Nelson.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Ahoskie close its deficit to 9-3. A fielder’s choice, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Gage Riddick gave Ahoskie life. Finally, Cockman induced an inning-ending from Cline.

Four runs in the bottom of the seventh helped Ahoskie close its deficit to 10-7. A walk by Jake Brown, a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Tj Jones set off Ahoskie rally. Finally, Smith got Jacob Doughtie to ground out to end the game.
