Brittain, Cunningham Lead HiToms

ASHEBORO, N.C. – Chase Cunningham threw a complete game and Cody Brittain went 2-for-4 as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms beat the Asheboro Copperheads (24-27, 12-12) 5-1 clinching the season series. With the win, the HiToms have now won eight of their last ten games.

Offensively, HiToms centerfielder Cody Brittain (USC Upstate) stole the show driving in all five HiToms runs. With the bases loaded in the top of the second, he hit his fifth homer of the year – and first grand slam – to push High Point-Thomasville (25-26, 13-10) ahead 4-0. Brittain struck again with the HiToms leading 4-1 in the top of the sixth by driving a RBI single to left field to push the lead back to four.

Starting pitcher Chase Cunningham (Belmont – 1-3) finished what he started for his first win of the year. He threw all nine innings allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out six, and he faced just four batters over the minimum.

The HiToms face their second straight opponent with playoff implications Thursday as they head to Capital City Stadium to face the Columbia Blowfish. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
