Men’s Golf: Elon’s DiIanni Earns Academic Honor

NORMAN, Okla. – Rising Elon senior men’s golfer Will DiIanni was recognized as one of 207 NCAA Division I members of the 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team. He is the first Phoenix golfer to claim the award since 2010.

DiIanni, who sports a 3.68 GPA as a finance major, was second on the Phoenix squad over the 2013-14 campaign with a 73.14 stroke average. He played in 29 rounds over 10 events. DiIanni, who is from Kernersville, N.C., recorded top-five finishes in three events, including opening the season with a tie for second out of 65 participants in the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate. At that event, he shot a seven-under 209 and had two rounds of 69. He followed that up by placing fourth out of 80 players at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate with a four-under 206. DiIanni also earned a fourth-place tie out of 90 golfers in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate with a five-over 221. He also added two more top-15 showings over the course of his junior season.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
