Rick Marlin Joins HPU Baseball Coaching Staff

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University head baseball coach Craig Cozart announced the addition of Rick Marlin to the HPU coaching staff as the program’s new volunteer assistant coach on Wednesday. Marlin comes to the Panthers from Florida Southern College where he coached for four seasons.

“Rick Marlin is a tremendous addition to the High Point University baseball staff,” Cozart said. “He was an outstanding college player and has been a very successful coach so far in his career. Most importantly, his work ethic and personal standards mirror those of our university as a whole. Coach Marlin will bring new ideas and techniques that will help us continue to grow as a program.”

Marlin began as the volunteer assistant at Florida Southern in 2011 and was promoted to Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach in 2012. During Marlin’s tenure at Florida Southern the Mocs won 111 games and reached the NCAA Div. II Regionals in 2014. Marlin’s responsibilities at Florida Southern included developing and instituting a recruiting plan, coaching the team’s outfielders and serving as the team’s hitting coach.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the baseball program here at High Point University,” Marlin said. “It is a great opportunity to be around a top-notch program and athletic department that continues to compete on a national level. I want to thank Coach Cozart and the rest of the staff for giving me the opportunity to learn from them as well as contribute to the program in the best way possible.”

Marlin played four years of collegiate baseball at Penn State University from 2006-09. He played in 175 career games with 162 starts and finished his collegiate career with a batting average of .295, seven home runs and 84 RBI.
