College Women’s Cross Country News – Guilford Picked Eighth in Preseason ODAC Poll

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s women’s cross country team was picked eighth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released Friday. Defending league champion Bridgewater College earned the top spot in the 10-team poll, 11 points ahead of Eastern Mennonite University.

Third-year head coach Danny Cash’s team returns eight letterwinners from last year’s team, which placed eighth among 10 squads in the 2013 ODAC Championships. Junior Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) leads the experienced group after pacing the Quakers in all seven races a year ago. She ran the seventh-fastest six-kilometer time in school history in the 2013 Charlotte XC Invitational with a time of 25:09.00. Jasmine O’Neill (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland), who owns the ninth-best six-kilometer time in school history (25:32.16), returns for her senior season. Classmate Pasangi Perera (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) is another top veteran and had the 15th-fastest six-kilometer mark (26:08.56) at the 2013 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships.

The Quakers open the season Friday (8/29) by hosting the ODAC Preview Meet on Guilford’s Meadows Course, which is also site of the 2014 ODAC Championships Nov. 1.
