Week One High School Football Player of the Week

Don’t know if the Rotary Club is still doing their weekly high school football Player of the Week awards, like they did last year, but we should go ahead and name one here, just to keep the rotation going…

I would like to call this the “Jim Modlin Player of the Week”, in honor of the man, “Big Jim” Modlin, who worked with us for so many years here at the site and at other outlets….

Who do you nominate this week and we will send the nominees over to Dennis White at our review board and let that group of football experts give us the final name by kickoff this Friday night….This board will include Dennis, area coaches and members of the media and we will try and get Dennis to mix it up and hit different sources each…

Who do you nominate from Week One???

Maybe some of these young men that had great games and I’m sure you have others:
Reggie Gallaspy(Southern Guilford) What did he have three TD’s and 200-plus yards last week…
Jamiel Mack(High Point Central)…Over 100 and touchdowns running and passing last week…
Kevin Gehsmann(Western Guilford)…Four TD’s and 200 yards rushing last week and not sure what he did on defense…
Jeremiah Brown(Southwest Guilford)…Three TD’s receiving for the Cowboys in their win over Rockingham County…
Tevin Quick(Ragsdale)…Had two TD’s and ran the Tigers’ offense from QB, when he was expecting to be the WR and did not do a bad job, leading his team to the win.
Hendon Hooker(Dudley)…Took his team to the ‘Victory Dance’, as the Panthers have now won 16 straight games and not a bad beginning for the sophomore and you saw Darius Graves and Connell Young doing it too for DHS…
Josh Homol and Mark Garner(Northwest Guilford)…The duo connected on the pass play that won the game for the NWG Vikings with just 4.7 seconds left in the contest back on Friday night in Week One…Choose one of the two here please…
Who makes the list from Southeast Guilford HS? Will it be QB Craven, DB/WR Liggs or one the RB’s Jennings or Styles????
*****That should be enough names to start with and if have some defenders to kick in here, send them in and I will get the names to Dennis White and see what he and his review board have to say about who will be the “Jim Modlin High School Football Player of the Week”, for Week #1….*****

+++++I am going to need to get all of the names to Dennis White by the end of the workday on Thursday so he and his team will have time to choose, so get those names in and start passing the word and sharing the word about who is on your list for Week One…+++++

  1. It’s always the offense; here’s a Defender: Mac Hild (Page) – 12 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 blocked field goal.

  2. Dez Sturdivant of Ben L. Smith
NW had no answer for him. He was like Jadeveon Clowney out there. Just ask NW O-Line

  3. Desmond Sturdivant , played lights out double digit tackles , a lot of tackles for loss ,and at least 3 hard hitting sacks! Player of the game…hands down!

  4. Mark Garner had 7 catches for 115 yards and the game winning TD. Sorry but he was the player of the game.
