Elon: CAA Releases 2014-15 Men’s Basketball League Schedule

RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced the 18-game men’s basketball league schedule today, Aug. 28, as the Elon University men’s basketball program prepares for its inaugural season in the new conference. Dates and times are subject to change, as the CAA will announce its full TV package on Oct. 21 at CAA Media Day in Baltimore, Md.

The Phoenix plays its first CAA game on Jan. 3 in Philadelphia against the Drexel Dragons. The two teams met last season in the NIT Season Tip-Off at Rutgers. Two days later, Elon treks to the Baltimore area to face Towson on Jan. 5.

Elon’s first CAA home game is scheduled for Jan. 8 in Alumni Gym, as the maroon and gold welcomes William & Mary to campus. The Tribe finished last season with a 20-12 record and fell to league champion Delaware in the CAA Championship in Baltimore last season. Two days later on Jan. 10, Elon welcomes Hofstra to campus.

Former conference rivals meet again on Jan. 14 in Alumni Gym, as the Phoenix hosts College of Charleston. It will mark the first meeting between the two schools since the 2013 Southern Conference Tournament semifinals in Asheville, N.C.

Following its matchup with the Cougars, Elon makes the short trip to Harrisonburg, Va., on Jan. 17 to face James Madison.

After its second matchup of the season with Towson on Jan. 22 at home, Elon welcomes reigning CAA champion Delaware to campus on Jan. 24. Delaware ended last season with a 25-10 mark after earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 13th-seeded Blue Hens fell to fourth-seeded Michigan State in the second round of the Big Dance.

A short trip to Wilmington, N.C., awaits the Phoenix after facing the Blue Hens, as the maroon and gold takes on UNC Wilmington on Jan. 28. It will mark the 12th all-time meeting between Elon and UNCW and the first since Feb. 21, 2009.

Elon closes the month of January on the road in Boston, as the Phoenix takes on Northeastern on Jan. 31. It will mark the first meeting between the two schools. Elon returns home five days later to host Drexel on Feb. 5.

The Phoenix plays its next two games on the road at Hofstra (Feb. 7) and at William & Mary (Feb. 11) before returning home to take on James Madison on Feb. 14.

After a pair of road games at CofC (Feb. 18) and Delaware (Feb. 21), the Phoenix closes the regular season at home. Elon welcomes Northeastern to Alumni Gym on Feb. 26 before it hosts instate rival UNCW on Feb. 28.

The 2015 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 6-9 at Baltimore Arena. All ten league institutions compete in the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
