GC Pride Soccer Women Pick Up First Win of 2014 Against Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA – The Pride women’s soccer team got their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon. Greensboro (1-1) defeated Marymount (0-1-1) by a final score of 2-0 for their first shutout of the year.

Both teams used strong defense for the first 82 minutes of the game before the Pride broke through. Allison Gibson collected a cross into the box from Samara Alba making it 1-0 at the 82:56 mark.

Three minutes later Alba got her second assist of the game, when she played a streaking Melanie Raton down the left side of the field for the second goal of the game, winning 2-0.

Marymount had 14 shots on the day, with Jessica Thatcher making seven saves for the shutout in goal. The Pride had 12 shots led by Alba, Gibson, and Raton with three apiece.

Greensboro women’s soccer team will make their home debut on Saturday, September 6 when they take on Washington & Lee. The kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Pride Field.
