HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s lacrosse head coach Lyndsey Boswell has announced the addition of former University of North Carolina All-American Sloane Serpe to the program’s staff as an assistant coach.
Serpe recently wrapped up one of the finest playing careers in Tar Heel history. A proven leader on and off the field, Serpe was a three-time All-American and served as a team captain during her final two seasons in Chapel Hill. The North Caldwell, N.J., native led UNC to a national title in 2013 and earned Academic All-America honors as a senior in 2014.
“Sloane brings not only her experience in winning a national championship and competing at the highest level, but also the ability to make adjustments on the defensive end of the field,” Boswell said. “Those adjustments to our defense will greatly impact our success as a program.”
The all-time leader in games started in Tar Heels history, Serpe guided the program through one of the greatest eras in its history. In addition to the 2013 national title, North Carolina earned two berths in the NCAA quarterfinals (2012, 2014) and reached the semifinals in 2011.
“Sloane’s going to have an extremely positive impact on our young players that will be filling in some big shoes of our departing senior class,” Boswell added. “She’ll be able to teach those younger student-athletes what it takes to lead a team.”
Serpe, a defensive standout throughout her career, garnered first team All-ACC accolades in her sophomore through senior seasons and posted four-year totals of 110 ground balls, 57 caused turnovers and 52 draw controls.
During her outstanding senior campaign, Serpe notched 40 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers while also posting five goals and an assist. She was nominated for the Tewaarton Award in 2014, which is given annually to the top player in Division I college lacrosse.
She was selected to participate in North Carolina’s prestigious Carolina Leadership Academy during her undergraduate career and completed the Veteran Leaders and Rising Stars programs with the organization.
After gaining experience in a number of leadership opportunities during her playing career, Serpe is now ready to motivate a new set of student-athletes while beginning her coaching career at High Point University.
“I really wanted to start with a program where I could make an impact right away and help the student-athletes while also learning from the coaching staff,” Serpe said. “I’m really excited to step into this role and am thrilled for the opportunity to work with Lyndsey and learn from her.”
