Jamiel Mack(High Point Central HS) named High School Football Player of the Week

Spoke to Dennis White, our Friday Night Football analyst/broadcast partner today and Dennis said he and his panel did not need much time in selecting this week’s “Jim Modlin High School Football Player of the Week”, presented by Chik-fil-A….

Here are the numbers one more time that Mack posted last week in the HP Central Bison win over the Blue Comets, from Asheboro:
QB Jamiel Mack from High Point Central:240 yards passing with 4 TD’s going 12-16 and Mack had 163 yards rushing and 4 TD’s

We hope to have Jamiel Mack on our Thursday night Football in Focus Show, from Shane’s Rib Shack in the next few weeks, to present him with his award/prize from Chik-fil-A….

Dennis White and his men/team had a pretty easy task in selecting Jamiel Mack this week and their job may be a little tougher next time around….

The award named in honor of ‘Big Jim’ Modlin, who used to help us on our football and basketball broadcasts here at the site for many years and ‘Big Jim’ made a pretty big name for himself, back in his days as a basketball post player for the Ragsdale Tigers and then later with much success, as an East Carolina basketball player….Found this background info on Wikipedia today…..

Although his East Carolina Pirates never won a conference championship nor participated in any postseason tournaments during his career, Jim Modlin was part of a unique historical oddity during the 1969–70 season: the three starting frontcourt ECU players all averaged double-doubles for the year. Additionally, each of them shared the same first name: Jim Gregory (forward), Jim Fairley (forward), and Jim Modlin (center). Their point-rebound averages were, respectively: 16.5/10.4, 16.7/12.1, and 18.5/10.5. It is believed that this may be the only occurrence in National Collegiate Athletic Association history in which three teammates each averaged point-rebound double-doubles during the same season.
