College Volleyball Results – Guilford Concludes Play at Greensboro Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College wrapped up play at the Greensboro College Invitational Sunday with 3-0 setbacks to Agnes Scott College and Piedmont College in Hanes Gym.

Agnes Scott used a 10-4 midway through the first game for a 25-19 victory and rallied from an 18-11 deficit to win game two, 25-23. A late Guilford rally in the third game tied the score at 25-25, but Agnes Scott took advantage of three late hitting errors to pull out a 29-27 decision and win the match. Lauren Aikens hit .500 and had 12 kills for the Terriers (1-5). Shelli Sherman picked up 25 digs in the contest and also served up two aces.

Guilford’s Kelsey Ruehling had a match-high 16 kills on .361 hitting, plus eight digs. Casey Davis added 16 digs and 11 assists. Taylor Creed chipped in with eight kills for the Quakers.

Piedmont (4-2) hit .253 in its 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 victory later in the day. The Quakers (2-6) managed just .079 hitting in the match. Creed paced Guilford with a match-high 12 kills and Davis contributed 10 digs and 13 assists. Maile Munro added 17 assists and 10 digs.

Kaitlin Norman led the Lions with 10 putaways on .292 hitting. Randee Harvel added eight kills and Katie Faith picked up 16 digs.

Guilford opens its home schedule Wednesday (9/10) with a nonconference match against Salem College at 7:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
