College Football News – Guilford’s Farmer Named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College senior Jordan Farmer (Advance, N.C./Davie County) captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Defensive Football Player of the Week Award Monday.

Farmer, a 5-11, 250-pound defensive end, posted seven tackles in Guilford’s 52-0 home win over Greensboro College in last Saturday’s Gate City Soup Bowl contest. He had one-and-a-half sacks among his two-and-a-half tackles for loss and forced two fumbles. Teammate Greg Mello picked up one of Farmer’s forced fumbles and returned it 39 yards, which led to a Quakers’ touchdown late in the second quarter. The play is a finalist for the ODAC’s Football Play of the Week Award, which is determined by on-line voting.

Farmer and his defensive mates produced the first shutout in the series’ 18-year history between Greensboro’s two NCAA Division III football teams. The Quakers forced five turnovers, produced three sacks and did not allow the Pride inside Guilford’s 20-yard line.
