Elon Volleyball Returns Home to Host Local Rival High Point

ELON, N.C. – The Elon volleyball team returns home to Alumni Gym for a midweek match against local opponent High Point on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

Looking Back
The Phoenix finished 1-2 in the Kennesaw State Owls Invitational over the weekend. Elon claimed a 3-2 win over the host Owls before suffering setbacks to No. 7 Purdue (3-0) and UNC Asheville (1-5). Danielle Smith was named to the all-tournament team after 28 kills and eight blocks in the tournament, while Kayla Agae led the team with 30 kills to average 2.73 kills/set and hit .253.

Elon vs. High Point
The Panthers have claimed the last two matches in the yearly rivalry, but the Phoenix is 7-4 against HPU under Mary Tendler. Last year, the Panthers took the first two sets before Elon rallied to send the match to a deciding fifth set. The Panthers are 2-3 on the season after suffering five-set losses to both Eastern Washington and Western Carolina over the weekend.

Elon head coach Mary Tendler is in her 12th season with the Phoenix program. She enters Wednesday’s match with a 187-179 Elon and career record.

Looking Ahead
The Phoenix will play in the Hampton Inn & Suites of Holly Springs Invitational this weekend, Sept. 12-13, against host Campbell, North Florida and South Carolina in Buies Creek, N.C.
