Second Half Push Leads Greensboro College Women’s Soccer Over Guilford 3-0

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro women’s soccer team (2-2) upended Guilford College (0-4-1) 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Three second half goals lifted the Pride to the victory over the Quakers.

In the first half, neither team was able to find the back the net for a 0-0 lock at half. The Pride outshot the Quakers 6-3 during the period, with Allison Gibson leading the way with two shots, one coming on frame.

Greensboro struck first at 49:34 when Melanie Raton played a ball over the top from the right corner of the 18 finding the foot of Elizabeth Torres who buried the shot for the 1-0 lead. The Pride tacked on a second goal when Gibson broke away down the right side of the field and her shot was placed in the left corner making it 2-0.

Raton got the final goal of the game from Gibson at the 82:41 mark to win the game 3-0. Greensboro outshot Guilford 15-4, and 8-2 shots on goal. The Pride held an 8-5 advantage on corners.

Torres, Raton, and Gibson led the way with three apiece with two coming on goal. Lauren Greeson and Sydney Boggs were close behind with two shots apiece.

Jessica Thatcher made two saves in goal for the shutout victory. Meanwhile Becca Banks had five saves for Guilford in net.

The Pride returns to action on Saturday at home when they welcome Salem College. The first whistle is set for 2:00 p.m.
