College Men’s Soccer Final – N.C. Wesleyan 5, Guilford 3

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Charles Chapin and Matt Moore each netted two goals a piece in North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Wednesday afternoon victory over Guilford College, 5-3.

The Quakers jumped to an early lead, 2-0, thanks to a Chase Beguin header off of a Colin Dillon free kick in the 10th minute. 10:03 later, Izzy Betancourt sent a through-ball into Johnny Gofreddi to increase the lead.

Chapin countered with goals in the 37th and 54th minutes to even the match, 2-2. The Battling Bishops ended their stretch of four unanswered goals after a pair of tallies from Julius Oskarsson and Moore in a 4:28 stretch mid-way through the second half.

Angel Valencia (Greensboro, N.C./Westchester Country Day) countered in the 84th minute with a shot from 15 yards out thanks to a left cross from Beguin to cut the deficit in half before North Carolina Wesleyan’s Moore answered 2:31 later off a feed from Chapin.

The Battling Bishops outshot the Quakers, 18-8, while holding a narrow corner kick advantage, 7-5.

Marko Mandalinic stopped eight shots in net for the Quakers. North Carolina Wesleyan’s Jesper Olsson made one save.

The Quakers (0-5) return to action Friday for a 7 p.m. contest, hosting Washington and Lee University in the Quakers’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener.
