College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Salem 1

Greensboro, N.C. – Casey Davis’ game-high 12 kills led a balanced effort in Guilford College’s 3-1 nonconference volleyball win over visiting Salem College Wednesday. The Quakers won the first two sets, 25-21, 25-16, before Salem claimed the third, 25-19. Guilford sealed the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.

Davis hit .292 on the night and also chipped in 13 assists, seven digs and two service aces. She was one of three Quakers (2-6) in double-digit kills, along with fellow rookies Heather Crawford (10) and Taylor Creed (10). Crawford did not make an error in 20 attempts and paced the home team with three blocks. Michaela Wall and Kelsey Ruehling both added eight putaways and Ruehling led all students with 21 digs. Maile Munro set up 28 assists and served up five of the Quakers’ 12 aces in the match.

Salem (1-6) got eight kills each from Kylie Taffer, Hillary McPhatter and Roslyn Nixon. Taylor Rhoades notched a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs.

Guilford heads to Shenandoah University Saturday (9/13) for a tri-match with the host Hornets and Messiah College.
