Elon Softball Adds Kiandra Mitchum to Freshman Class

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team has added one more player to its 2014-15 roster with pitcher Kiandra Mitchum of Hanover High School in Mechanicsville, Va., becoming the fourth overall addition to the 2014 freshman class.

“We are very excited to welcome Kiandra to the Elon softball family,” said Phoenix head coach Kathy Bocock. “We believe that she will make an immediate impact for us and she brings something to the team that we have missed the last couple of seasons as a left-handed pitcher. She is also an outstanding student-athlete that comes from a great family and we’re looking forward to working with her this season.”

Mitchum had a decorated prep career at Hanover under head coach Stephanie Acors. She was the Conference 20 and Region 4A Pitcher of the Year and also garnered first team Conference 20 and Region 4A honors. During her junior and senior campaigns, Mitchum was a first team All-State selection and received a spot on the All-Metro team.

A National Honor Society member, Mitchum was a four-time all-academic student-athlete and earned the Hanover Scholar award as a senior. Mitchum also played travel ball with the Dixie Chicks 18-U team under head coach Allan Spencer. The daughter of James and Stephanie Mitchum, Kiandra plans to major in business at Elon.

Mitchum joins Madison Kadlic (Powell, Ohio), Hannah Olson (Yorktown, Va.) and Kara Shutt (Greensboro, N.C.) as the incoming freshman class for the Phoenix this season.
