Guilford’s Ben Strong Drafted by Westchester in NBA D-League Expansion Draft

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Former Guilford College All-America basketball player Ben Strong ’08 has been drafted by the Westchester Knicks of the NBA Developmental League. The Knicks, affiliates of the NBA’s New York Knicks, are the D-League’s 18th team and will begin play in November.

Strong, a veteran of three D-League seasons, spent the parts of the 2013-14 campaign with Iowa and Delaware before playing the final portion of the season with Austin. The 6-11 center has averaged 6.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in 123 career contests with 125 blocked shots. He enjoyed his best season with Iowa in 2011-12 when he averaged nearly eight points per game and helped the Energy gain a spot in the D-League playoffs. Strong also played professionally in Israel and Europe before returning to the United States in 2011.

Strong concluded a brilliant college career with Guilford in 2008, averaging 25.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. In 2006-07, he was named the NCAA Division III Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3hoops.com. Guilford’s second all-time leading scorer (2,241 points), he led the Quakers to a 48-10 record, the 2008 ODAC title and two NCAA playoff appearances in his final two campaigns.
