College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 2, Washington and Lee 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Rob Sandidge (Sanford, N.C./Lee Christian) scored both of Guilford College’s goals in the first half, leading the Quakers to a Friday Night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Washington and Lee University, 2-0.

Sandidge scored his first goal in the ninth minute when Colin Dillon booted a free kick from 35 yards out into the box where Sandidge finished the ball. After Corey McDonough sprinted into the box, Sandidge booted a ball deflected by the Washington and Lee defense from the top of the box into the net to increase the lead, 2-0.

Washington and Lee countered 3:31 later when Al Organ booted a Patrick Barry service into the net off a free kick to cut the Quaker lead in half.

Guilford held off Washington and Lee in the second half with the Generals taking the advantage on shots, 19-6. After both teams were even on corner kicks, 2-2, in the first half, the Generals finished with the advantage, 7-2.

Marko Mandalinic made seven saves in net for the Quakers. Washington and Lee’s Albert Civitarese stopped one shot.

The Quakers (1-5, 1-0 ODAC) return to action Tuesday, hosting Ferrum College for a 7 p.m. contest.
