College Volleyball Results – Guilford Drops Two at Shenandoah Tri-Match

WINCHESTER, Va. – Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped two contests Saturday at a tri-match hosted by Shenandoah University. The Quakers (3-8, 0-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) fell to the host Hornets, 26-24, 25-15, 25-17, before losing a 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 decision to Messiah College.

Senior Michaela Wall led the Quakers in their opening match with eight kills on .308 hitting. Rookie outside hitter Taylor Creed chipped in with six putaways and classmate Casey Davis topped Guilford with 10 assists and six digs.

Blake Parkes had a match-best nine kills, three service aces, and hit .444 for Shenandoah (8-2, 1-0 ODAC). Allie Pieper contributed eight kills and Rachel Cerratani set up a match-high 26 assists.

Guilford dropped its first meeting with the Falcons since 2007 despite six kills and six digs by Creed. Junior outside hitter Kelsey Ruehling put away five kills and Brooke Herr picked up eight digs, a team high. Davis finished with 20 assists.

Alyssa Vorbeck and Brooke Gallagher both had seven kills for Messiah (7-2), which led both teams. The Falcons hit .342 as a unit and served up 10 aces. Gallagher also had 29 assists.

Guilford plays next Saturday (9/20) when it meets Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Wesleyan College in an ODAC tri-match hosted by Emory & Henry College.
