Elon Men’s Golf Keep Moving Up Leaderboard in Final Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Will DiIanni posted a seven-under par 65 to help the Elon men’s golf team continue to move toward the top of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate leader board during Sunday’s final round of action. The Phoenix moved from a tie for seventh into a tie for fourth at the end of the day with a three-round score of 864 (293-281-290).

Will DiIanni’s 214 (75-74-65) placed in a 14th-place tie out of 100 players with the help of his career-low round on Sunday. He began his final round with three consecutive birdies and would finish the front nine at six-under. He would add two birdies on the back nine on his way to a 65. He posted 12 total birdies in the tournament.

In a tie for 23rd was Jonathan DiIanni who posted a 217 (73-69-75). He notched three birdies over his final 18 holes.

Troy Beaver, who tied for third in the event with 39 total pars, tied for 38th with a score of 220 (74-69-77). He had one birdie along with 13 pars in his final round.

With a score of 222 (75-69-78), Charlie May tied for 52nd in his first collegiate event. May recorded one birdie over his final 18 holes.

Finally, Jeff Krieger tallied a 225 (71-81-73) to tie for 63rd. During Sunday’s final round, Krieger carded three birdies.

North Carolina’s Ben Griffin claimed medalist honors with a -10 206 (67-69-70) as he edged out Furman’s Bryce Howell and GRU Augusta’s Maverick Antcliff by two strokes.

The Tar Heels also grabbed the team title with a three-round team score of 838 (273-277-288). UNCG and East Carolina tied for second in the 18-team field with marks of 861. The Phoenix was among a trio of schools tied for fourth with an 864. Joining the maroon and gold in the tie were GRU Augusta and Kennesaw State.

The only other CAA program in the field was UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks finished 18th with a mark of 910.

Elon will next compete at the Rees Jones Invitational in Daufuskie Island, S.C. from Sept. 21-23.
