GC Pride Women’s Soccer Falls To Covenant 2-0 In USA South Play

LOOKOUT MTN., GA — The Greensboro College Pride women’s soccer team fell in their USA South Athletic Conference opener on Friday afternoon to the Scots of Covenant College by a final score of 2-0.

Greensboro College was able to push the pace of the game early, getting the games’ first two shots off but was unable to find the back of the net. The score would remain deadlocked at 0-0 until Covenant tallied the game’s first goal in the 41st minute of play to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission period.

After the halftime break, Greensboro was once again able to apply some pressure to the Scots back line early but the Scots keeper Lucy Johnson was able to keep the Pride off the board. Covenant then tallied the game’s final goal in the 61st minute to come away with the 2-0 victory.

“You are never pleased when you lose, but I thought the effort and quality at times was very good today,” Pride Director of Soccer John Trice said. “We must limit our mistakes, convert on our chances, and continue getting better each game.”

The Pride had 12 shots in the game as Lauren Greeson and Melanie Raton each had three shots on the day to lead the way. Samara Alba and Allison Gibson each contributed two shots a piece. Greensboro College held a narrow 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Pride’s Jessica Thatcher took the loos in the net for the Pride while making five saves on the day.

With the loss, the Pride’s overall record falls to 2-4 and 0-1 in conference play. The Pride women’s soccer team will return to action on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM when they welcome the Monarchs of Methodist University to Pride Field for a USA South showdown
