College Football News – Guilford’s Pawlowski Repeats as ODAC Offensive Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Matt Pawlowski (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) collected his second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Football Player of the Week Award Sunday. The announcement marks the junior’s seventh weekly honor of his career.

Pawlowski, a 6-2, 190-pound quarterback, completed 28-of-38 passes for 394 yards and four touchdowns in the Quakers’ 35-27 victory over Southern Virginia University Sept. 20 at Salem (Va.) Stadium. He connected on nearly 74 percent of his passes to eight different receivers and did not throw an interception for the fifth straight game, dating to last season. Pawlowski threw at least four scores for the third time in as many games and helped Guilford to its first 3-0 start since 2007. He threw two first-half scoring tosses to classmate Adam Smith (Mocksville, N.C./Davie), which gives him an ODAC-best seven touchdown receptions this season, the second-best total in NCAA Division III. Four of Pawlowski’s completions helped the Quakers convert 11-of-14 third-down opportunities.

After three games this year, Pawlowski leads the ODAC in most passing categories. He has completed 77-of-105 attempts for 1,047 yards with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions. Pawlowski averages 349 passing yards per game and boasts a league-best 73.3 completion percentage. He ranks second in NCAA Division III in passing touchdowns and points responsible for (84). His 201.1 passing efficiency rating stands third nationally and his passing yardage is fourth.

Pawlowski’s play has elevated him on Guilford’s career passing charts. After 23 college contests, he already holds Guilford’ second-highest number of passing touchdowns (53) and completions (472). He stands third in career passing yards (5,863) and passing attempts (755).
