HPU Volleyball: Chelsea Davis Reaches Milestone In Loss at Campbell

• Senior Chelsea Davis became the third player in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
• Senior Kristin Heldt had her seventh double-double of the season.
• Junior Wavie Chin tallied a career-high 32 digs.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior Chelsea Davis picked up her 1,000th career dig in Friday’s four-set loss at Campbell. The Panthers dropped the Big South Conference opener 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 25-23, XX-25) to Campbell at Gore Arena in Buies Creek, N.C.

Davis had a match-high 15 kills to go with two digs. She is the third player in program history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, joining Jamie Kaufman (1,597/1,043) and Audie Gonzalez (1,364/1,726). She now has 1,223 kills and 1,000 digs.

Senior Kristin Heldt posted her seventh double-double of the season with 12 kills and 18 digs. Junior Wavie Chin tallied a career-high 32 digs.

High Point’s rally in the first set came up just short. The Panthers fought off two set points to get within one point, 23-24, but Katelyn Layden finished the set with a kill for CU. The Panthers took an early 14-8 lead in the second set but couldn’t hold off a run by the Camels who took their first lead of the frame 19-18. Freshman Haley Barnes tied the set 19-19 but Campbell finished it off with a 5-1 run to win 25-20.

The Panthers fought off the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third set. It was tied 23-23 and Davis scored the final two points to secure the win. Campbell stormed back to win set four 25-11 and take the match 3-1.

Barnes finished the match with 10 kills and four digs. Senior Katie Vincent added five kills and six blocks, five of them solo. Freshman Carly Jimenez dished out a career39 assists in her first career start.

High Point dropped to 6-8 on the season and 0-1 in Big South play. The Panthers return to the Millis Center for a Big South Conference match against Coastal Carolina on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
