Allison Gibson Equalizes Game in 89th Minute For 1-1 Tie for GC Women’s Soccer

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team (3-4-1, 1-1-1 USAS) tied N.C. Wesleyan (5-3-1, 1-1-1 USAS) 1-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Pride got the tying goal in the 89th minute off a through ball by Samara Alba that Allison Gibson slotted past the keeper making it 1-1.

The Bishops struck first in the 15th minute for an early 1-0 lead. The Pride was outshot 5-4 during the period. Meghan Cole paced the way with two shots, two of which came on frame.

In the second half, Lauren Greeson had the first goal opportunity when her shot hit the post in the 55th minute. The Pride went on to get the equalizing goal in the 89th minute making it 1-1. Down the stretch Greensboro outshot the Bishops 6-3.

In the overtime periods, neither team was able to score for the 1-1 tie. Both teams had a shot apiece in the first overtime; Greensboro held a 3-0 advantage during the second overtime.

The Pride outshot their opponents 14-9 with Gibson leading the way with four shots, two on goal. Melanie Raton, Cole, and Alba all had two shots apiece.

Jessica Thatcher made two saves in net, while Ashley Major had five saves in goal for N.C. Wesleyan.

The Pride returns to the field on Tuesday, when they travel to USA South Opponent Averett University. The match is set for 5:00 p.m.
