Elon Women’s Golf Continues Hot Streak, Wins UNCG Forest Oaks Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Make it four championships in its last six events for the Elon women’s golf team as the Phoenix claimed the team title at the UNCG Forest Oaks Fall Classic on Tuesday. The maroon and gold fired a three-round score of 899 (298-301-300) to best its nearest competitor by six strokes.

Elon, which has won both of its fall tournaments this season, has won multiple events in back-to-back seasons. As a team, Elon had the second-most pars in the event (171) and was tied for the fifth-most birdies (25).

The Phoenix was led by Emily Brooks who placed sixth in a field of 96 golfers. Brooks completed the tournament with a four-over 220 (75-70-75). Her 12 birdies over 54 holes were tied for the most in the tournament. She also posted a par on 28 holes.

Two strokes back was Kelsey Badmaev whose 222 (74-74-74) tied her for ninth. Badmaev led all players with 42 pars in 54 holes. She also had three birdies.

Sunna Vidisdottir’s mark of 224 (73-77-74) placed her in a tie for 11th. Vidsidottir earned 36 pars, tied for the sixth-most in the field. Her five birdies were tied for seventh among all players.

Placing 48th was Heather Munro. Munro carded a 235 (76-82-77) and had 37 pars, which ranked in a tie for fifth.

Finally, Hilda Kristjansdottir tied for 54th with a score of 237 (80-80-77). She posted par on 28 holes and had four birdies in her first collegiate event.

Individual medalist honors went to Mercer’s Katy Harris who notched a one-under 215 (70-72-73).

The Phoenix will be off until competing in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 13-14.
