Elon Women’s Golf Phoenix Pacing Field at Forest Oaks Fall Classic After Two Rounds

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Elon women’s golf team continued its hot start to its fall season as the Phoenix sits atop the leader board after two rounds of the Forest Oaks Fall Classic on Monday.

The maroon and gold’s 599 (298-301) is nine strokes better than the trio of Rollins, James Madison and Maryland for first place. UNC Wilmington rounds out the top five after a two-round score of 609.

Elon has now led at the end of play during each of its four days of fall competition. The Phoenix claimed the title at the W&M Invitational to open the year.

Pacing the Phoenix through Monday’s two rounds was Emily Brooks. Brooks posted rounds of 75 and 70 to sit in a tie for third out of 96 golfers with a score of one-over 145. She notched four birdies over her first 18 holes of the day before sinking five birdies during her second round. Her eight birdies are tied for the most in the field.

In a tie for ninth is Kelsey Badmaev who carded a 148 (74-74) on the first day of action. She had two birdies on the day to go along with 26 pars, the second-most in the tournament on day one.

Just two strokes back in a tie for 13th is Sunna Vidisdottir. Vidisdottir’s 150 was reached with rounds of 73 and 77 and three total birdies. She added 24 pars.

A pair of freshmen round out Elon’s scoring contingent. Heather Munro is tied for 46th with a 158 (76-82) and Hilda Kristjansdottir is tied for 62nd with a 160 (80-80). Munro totaled 24 pars and Kristjansdottir posted two birdies and 19 pars.

The Phoenix will go for its second consecutive tournament victory during Tuesday’s final round of play.
