HPU Men’s Golf Finishes 10th at Cardinal Invitational

• High Point moved up one place on the final day of the Cardinal Invitational to finish 10th.
• Sophomore Jack Sides placed 15th with a score of 220 (75-71-74).
• Redshirt-freshman AJ Hopkins improved 14 spots in the individual standings in the final round.

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Jack Sides led the High Point University men’s golf team with a two-over 74 in the final round of the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Louisville in Simpsonville, Ky. on Tuesday. The Panthers finished 10th with a team score of 902 in the 54-hole tournament.

The Panthers moved up one spot in the team rankings in the final day to finish 10th as a team with a score of 902 (299-300-303). Host-team Louisville won the event, edging Louisiana-Monroe by one stroke.

Sides finished four-over par for the week, with a 220 (75-71-74). He tied for 15th in the individual standings as High Point’s top finisher.

Freshman Emile Menard was High Point’s second finisher in his collegiate debut. He carded a 227 (76-73-78) to tie for 39th at the event. Junior McKay Tye was two strokes behind Menard with a 229 (75-78-76) at the Cardinal Invitational.

After shooting back-to-back rounds of 78 on Monday, redshirt-freshman AJ Hopkins carded a 75 on Tuesday to move up 14 spots in the individual standings and finished tied for 54th. Hopkins finished with a score of 231. Senior LJ Georgetti rounded out High Point’s scores with a 235 (73-78-84).

Louisiana-Monroe’s Greg Smail and Eastern Kentucky’s Patric Sundlof tied for the individual lead. They each finished five-under par (211).

The Panthers are off until Oct. 13 when they will travel to Morganton, N.C. for the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at Mimosa Hills Country Club. HPU has placed in the top seven at the Donald Ross in each of the last three seasons.
