Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Falls In Overtime 2-1 Against #13 CNU

GREENSBORO, NC — The Pride men’s soccer team returned Pride Field on Wednesday afternoon when they welcomed nationally ranked Christopher Newport (8-1-2) to town. Greensboro College jumped out to an early lead, but the Captains were able to come away with the 2-1 overtime victory.

At the start of the contest, the Pride was able to control the fast pace of the Captains to keep the game scoreless heading into the 12th minute of play. In the 12th minute, Pride junior Whit Maupin found the back of the for the first time this season putting Greensboro on top 1-0 early off an assist from George Dimopoulos. Later in the period, Greensboro College’s Warren Washington hit the crossbar of the goal with the score remaining 1-0 heading into the intermission period.

In the second half, the Pride’s Shaun Watt had a chance to put the Pride up by two goals but Christopher Newport goalkeeper Nolan Mann made a diving stop to keep the score 1-0. As time winded down, the Captains were able to find the equalizer in the 89th minute to send the game into the overtime period.

Christopher Newport then found the game winning goal five minutes into the frame for the 2-1 victory.
Logan Rohde took the loss between the pipes for Greensboro despite stopping six Captains shots. Mann earned the victory for CNU.

Watt led the way in shots on the day for the Pride with three, while Robbie Barnes contributed two shots.

With the loss, the Greensboro College men fall to 4-6-0 overall on the season. Greensboro College will return to USA South Athletic Conference play on Saturday night under the lights at foe Averett University. The first whistle is set for 7:00 PM.
