High Point Volleyball Stumbles Against Coastal Carolina

• Senior Chelsea Davis led High Point with 11 kills against Coastal Carolina.
• Junior Gabi Mirand posted a double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs.
• High Point returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Charleston Southern.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team fell to Coastal Carolina on Friday at the Millis Center. The Panthers dropped the match 3-1 (25-18, 9-25, 21-25, 12-25). Junior Gabi Mirand posted a double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs in the contest.

“I have to give a lot of credit to Coastal Carolina,” said head coach Jason Oliver. “They came out and played a pretty flawless match after the first set. They defended and passed well and sided out at a high percentage. We have a quick turnaround to get ready for Charleston Southern tomorrow and we have to find the proper mindset to compete.”

Senior Chelsea Davis led High Point with 11 kills while Mirand put up 31 assists with 10 digs and two blocks. Senior Kristin Heldt added nine kills and nine digs and junior Wavie Chin had a team-high 18 digs.

Eszter Nagy led Coastal Carolina with 12 kills and Leah Hardeman added 11 kills and eight digs.

High Point won the first set 25-18 while hitting .320 in the frame. The Panthers held Coastal Carolina to a .031 attack percentage in the opening set. The Chanticleers turned it around in the second set with a .414 hitting percentage and a 25-9 win. HPU fought off three set points in the third set but couldn’t complete the comeback and fell 25-21. Coastal Carolina completed the win with a 25-12 win in set four.

High Point returns to the Millis Center on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against Charleston Southern. The match is the annual Pink Game to support breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the Millis Center.
