Southwest Guilford To Retire Clyde Simm’s #9 Jersey On October 14th

High Point, NC – – Athletic Director Brindon Christman and Principal of Southwest Guilford High School, Alan Parker are honored to announce that the athletic department will retire former 2000 soccer graduate Clyde Simm’s #9 jersey on October 14th at halftime of our varsity soccer game vs. Ragsdale HS. “This has been a long time project for us and we are so excited to honor such a remarkable and talented former student athlete”.

Clyde Simms played soccer at SW Guilford High School from 1997 to 2000. Clyde led his team to the NCHSAA 3A state finals in the fall of 1999 losing to R-S Central 2-1. Coached by Mike Fitzpatrick, Clyde was the glue that lead a very talented group of soccer student athletes to the state championship game. After an outstanding high school career, Clyde attended East Carolina University as a midfielder, earning Conference USA all-conference honors both his junior and senior seasons. He also was team captain for the Pirates for three seasons. Clyde ended his career at ECU as fifth all-time in games played with 72 and made 70 starts. He scored seven goals and had seven assists for 21 points and took 108 shots on goal during his career.

After his collegiate career, Clyde played for the Richmond Kickers of the US League in 2004 starting as a
defensive midfielder. Clyde later became the only United Soccer League player named to the 28-man U.S. Men’s National Team roster in 2005. Clyde furthered his career in the MSL by playing for the New England Revolution and D. C. United. He retired from professional soccer after the 2013 season due to personal health issues.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony on October 14th, 2014 as the Cowboys take on Ragsdale HS at 7 pm. The”official retiring of Clyde Simms #9 jersey” will take place at halftime of the varsity game.

The media is welcome to join us in the Jim Coggins Gymnasium at 6 pm for a reception to honor Clyde and his family.
