GC Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Averett 1-0

The Greensboro College men’s soccer team (5-6, 3-1 USAS) blanked Averett University (2-7, 0-3 USAS) 1-0 on Saturday evening. The Pride got the game winning goal in the 84th minute when Shaun Watt headed in a free kick by Scott Fatyol.

In the first half of play, Greensboro controlled the tempo of play outshooting their opponents 7-3. Robbie Barnes fired the games first two shots that were blocked by Cougar defenders. Warren Washington placed the final two shots of the period on frame that were saved by the keeper.

The second half again was dominated by the Pride as they outshot their opponents 6-2. Greensboro finally broke through in the 84th minute with the Watt goal assisted by Faytol. The Pride defense held strong during the last six minutes preserving the 1-0 shutout.

For the game, Greensboro outshot their opposition 13-5 and 6-2 on target. The Pride also held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Marco Figueroa, Barnes, and Washington led the way with two shots apiece. Logan Rohde picked up the win in goal making two saves.

The Pride returns to the field on Saturday September 11th taking on Huntingdon College. The kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
