College Men’s Golf News – Guilford’s Palmer Named ODAC Golfer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Men’s Golfer of the Week Award Monday. Palmer joins classmate Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) as Guilford winners of the honor this season.

Palmer, a sophomore, won his first college tournament Sept. 30 with a nine-stroke victory at the Gordin Classic. He shot 66-66-74-206, 10 strokes under par, and outpaced the 60-man field by nine shots. His 206 represents the second-lowest 54-hole score in Guilford history. Palmer’s opening rounds of 66 in the tournament’s first two rounds set the school standard for lowest 36-hole score. His play helped the Quakers win the 12-team tournament by 17 strokes.

After six rounds this fall, Palmer has a team-low 73.0 stroke average, which sits third among ODAC leaders.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers, ranked sixth in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III Poll, compete at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational Oct. 12-14 in Destin, Fla.
