*****It was mentioned at a couple of sources that Jamon ‘Mook’ Reynolds(Northern Guilford HS) was a notable ommission…Reynolds feels he was left off of the roster since he did not attend one of the Shrine Bowl tryout combines and I am almost positive that you have to/must attend at least one of those combines to be eligible to be selected to the NC Shrine Bowl squad/roster….*****
(As they say, that is the DEAL.)

  • coach said,

That is not a guarentee about attending the shrine bowl combine to make the team, but why wouldn’t he? If he had a chance and didn’t he. Chris Leak didn’; attend the year he played. The kid from Grimsley that plays at Clemson, didn’t because he was playing baseball. It depends on the coaches. Coach Capps knows many coaches in the conference and if they signed off on him, he would probably be okay. If for some reason it sometime we do not know about, than that could be a reason also. RB, DB and WR are the hardest to make any how. Many good ones get left off each year. Too many, not enough spots.

  • Atarms said,

We know there are limited roster spots, but are we sure that these are the absolute best athletes from the triad representing nc? Not sure questionable

  • PigSkinUmpire said,

I can assure you that you DO NOT have to attend a Shrine Bowl Combine to be picked. The ONLY requirement is that your head coach nominate you to play in the ballgame. As I’ve stated before in other media outlets, some names mentioned, did not have a recommendation by their head coach, and that information will remain confidential…..

  • Cassius98 said,

Some “names” mentioned and “confidential”. PigSkin, there was only one name mentioned. So, please get over yourself, sir.

  • coach1 said,

How did the kid from Western Guilford get selected? Western has been terrible.

  • Andy Durham said,

Selections based on more on what the individual player is doing…Not so much a team-based selection….If a player is having a good year and if he has shown the talent they are looking for he will get in/on the team….

  • jreynolds13 said,

@COACH. He didnt because the kid was out trying to increase his national stock, which he did. The kid went from a no stars to 4 stars in one summer. To do that he had to go where the top talent was. Unfortunately, we dont have too many top 20 receivers around here. Those camps conflicted with the Shrine Bowl. No worries, he wouldnt trade what he has for the shrine bowl. Just funny how a top ten kid in the state, a preseason all state and a top 20 player in his position in the nation is overlooked. Hopefully some other kid will get some exposure. Its really all love over here.

no wonder sc kicks our tails about every year.
