Gate City FC Have Named Reed Avren Their New General Manager

GREENSBORO, NC – The Gate City FC have named Reed Avren their new general manager, the team announced today. Our own Chad Thomas had reported earlier this summer the two sides were working on a deal. Avren has been a fixture in the soccer community since his youth days with GYSA and US Soccer before leaving for a stellar career with East Carolina University, CASL Elite, and the Carolina Dynamo. This is going to give the organization familiarity and keeps the local connection, as it aims to continue the new era of quality soccer in
Greensboro.

In addition to hiring Avren, the club have also named former player MC McCoy as their new senior vice president of game day operations. Both will report directly to Justin Cox, the team’s President and Owner.

Avren, 31, is the second GM in team history and the first GM position for him. He had most recently work as a business executive in California. In addition, Avren has worked with Fox Sports in Los Angeles as an on-air promotions director, as well as, holding several coaching positions over the years before looking to get back in to professional soccer.

There is uncertainty with all first-time general managers, because they’ve never held the top job before and there’s no track record to evaluate. But in selecting Avren, the Club opted for the inexperience they’re familiar with rather than bringing in someone new from the outside with no connection to the area. As a player, Avren excelled quickly and had a unique style to his game, which we feel now shows within his leadership abilities and his vision for this organization.
