Brennan, Bernstein Lead Elon Cross Country at Royals XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A few members of the Elon University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Saturday morning, Oct. 11, on the course at McAlpine Creek Park.

In the women’s 5K race, freshman Brigid Brennan led the Phoenix with a new personal-record time of 18:36.5, placing 14th out of 46 competitors. Kaitlin Stober was 26th overall with a time of 18:57.6 while Corey Weiss was the third and final Elon runner in the race crossing the line in 36th and a time of 19:53.8.

On the men’s side, senior Adam Bernstein was the Phoenix’s top runner in the men’s 8K run with an eighth-place standing out of 35 runners and a time of 25:53.3. Junior Reed Payne was 16th with a time of 26:29.8 followed by Dominic Vernazza in 19th and a time of 26:42. Ryan Gwaltney was the final Phoenix runner to cross the line in 21st and his time of 26:45.8.

Next up, select members of the Phoenix men’s and women’s programs will compete next Saturday, Oct. 18, at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terra Haute, Ind.
