College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Finishes 13th at Golfweek Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 301 in Tuesday’s final round and placed 13th at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Course. With a 54-hole total of 301-306-301-908, the Quakers finished 13th among 18 teams in the field, which featured 15 schools ranked in the Oct. 3 Golf Coaches Association of America Division III Coaches ‘Poll.

Methodist University shot 293 Tuesday to catch second-round leader University of Texas-Tyler for a share of first place in the team standings. Both schools finished at 869 strokes, five better than third-place LaGrange College and seven strokes ahead of top-ranked Oglethorpe University, which finished fourth.

Methodist’s Mason Stutler and Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia both shot 209 and shared medalist honors. Stutler, the 36-hole co-leader, shot 70-68-71. Maccaglia shot 71-68-70.

Senior Drew Thompson paced the Quakers with his second straight round of even-par 71 on the 6,561-yard layout. He started the day from the 10th hole with a bogey, but birdied 11 and 18 to make the turn at one under par. A bogey on two brought him back even, where he remained for the final seven holes.

Quakers’ sophomores Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) and Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) both shot 75 Tuesday. Gross placed 38th in the 90-man field with a three-day score of 226. Palmer finished in 63rd place after shooting 73-84-75-232. Freshman Harrison Frye’s (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) 80 was Guilford’s fourth score Tuesday and the rookie finished in a tie for 71st at 235. Senior Nick Shedd shot 82-79-85-246 for a share of 89th place.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers return home to host the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial Oct. 27-28 at the Sedgefield Country Club’s Pete Dye Course.
