RICHMOND, Va. – Elon junior men’s golfer Jonathan DiIanni was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as the league’s men’s golfer of the week. He becomes the first Elon men’s golfer to earn a weekly CAA award.
DiIanni shared medalist honors at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational that was played on Monday and Tuesday in Rockville, Md. The Kernersville, N.C., native posted a two-under par 214 over his three rounds of play. He opened the event with a 71 before shooting a second-round 72. DiIanni concluded the tournament with a final round mark of 71. Over his 54 holes, DiIanni tallied 12 birdies, the second most in the field of 75 players.
His performance helped the Phoenix to a third-place finish out of 12 teams. Elon posted a team score of 889 (301-295-293).
DiIanni will lead the maroon and gold to its final fall tournament this weekend. Elon will participate in the 15-team Camden Collegiate in Camden, S.C. on Saturday and Sunday.
