Greensboro College Pride Football Suffers 39-14 Defeat

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro College Pride football team returned to action on Saturday afternoon against the Scots of Maryville College. The Pride fell by a final score of 39-14.

Maryville College scored the games first 20 points to take an 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter of play.

After falling behind 20-0, Greensboro College was able to close out an eleven play 60 yard drive to bring the score to 20-7 after an Amilicar Martinez extra point. Senior quarterback Ryan Throndset connected with Warren Scott out of the backfield from 27 yards out to get Greensboro College on the board.

On the next defensive possession for the Pride, Trey Daniels got a hand on a Evan Pittenger pass that fell in the hands of Wille Marshall giving the Greensboro College offense great field position on their own 44 yard line.

Throndset was then able to keep the offense going following the defensive take away. Greensboro College once again executed a long drive to pull within 20-14 heading into the break. Once again it was the arm Throndset who got the Pride in the scoring column hitting freshman receiver Gregory Clifton on a five yard strike.

After the intermission period, Maryville scored the game’s final 19 points to come away with the 39-14 victory.

Ryan Throndset finished the day with 173 passing yard on 17 receptions including two touchdowns. Warren Scott led the team in both the receiving and rushing category. Scott had 88 yards receiving on five receptions while running the ball 14 times for 46 yards.

Mart Grinton and Tyrone Barber each recorded 11 tackles on the day. Grinton, Barber, Will Thomas, James McClease, and Kendrick Mines also contributed on the defensive side of the ball recording five tackles for loss totaling 10 yards.

With the loss, Greensboro College falls to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-3 in USA South Conference play. The Pride football team will once again return to the grid iron next weekend in Newport News, V.A. when they travel to take on the Captains of Christopher Newport. The first kick is set for 7:00 PM.
