• Junior Tan Cheeranont also finished in the top five with a 36-hole score of 147 (74-73).

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sophomore Sarah Bae leads the race for the individual medal at the Fighting Camel Classic after shooting a two-under 142 through 36 holes on Monday in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Panthers sit in second after the first day with a total combined score of 600 (300-300).

“We played well as a team today,” head coach Vic Pate Flesher said. “Sarah and Tan played fantastic but right now we are missing that fourth scorer and we need someone to step up. I thought we negotiated some very difficult pin placements and we had a lot of birdies today, which was a big difference from the last couple tournaments. I’d like to see us go into tomorrow clear headed and motivated knowing that we are playing with Campbell, which is who we want to be with.”

Bae carded a two-under 70 in the opening round and followed it with an even par 72 in the second to finish the day atop the individual leaderboard. The sophomore had nine birdies on the day and leads the individual standings by a two-strokes over Campbell’s Nadine White and by three strokes over Campbell’s Tahnia Ravnjak.

Junior Tan Cheeranont also finished the first day in the top five, shooting 147 (74-73) through two rounds to end the day in a tie for fifth. Sophomore Danielle Fuss went 77-75 on the day and will enter the final round in a tie for 11th with a 36-hole score of 152.

Freshman Cayla Smith finished in a tie for 36th with a two-round score of 160 (80-80) while junior Casey Ward is tied for 41st with a 36-hole score of 163 (79-84). Senior Grier Bennett competed as an individual and ended the day tied for 29th with a total score of 159 (82-77).

High Point sits in second in the team standings after two rounds with a total combined score of 600. The Panthers trail by seven strokes behind host Campbell who finished with a score of 593. Nova Southeastern sits in third with a score of 604 while Old Dominion (608) and Toledo (611) round out the top five.

The third and final round of the Fighting Camel Classic will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Keith Hills Golf Club. The round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
