College Volleyball Final – Emory & Henry 3, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tristen Pennington and Ali Singleton paced a balanced hitting attack in Emory & Henry College’s hard-fought 3-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win over Guilford College Thursday night.

Pennington and Singleton both had 11 kills as the Wasps (16-11, 5-5 ODAC) had five students with nine or more putaways in the 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, 25-21 victory. Emory & Henry overcame deficits in the first and fourth sets to pull out the win. Pennington also served up a match-high six aces to account for 17 points on the night. She picked up 10 digs, second only to Emily Hinshaw’s 11 pickups. Anika Constantinescu had nine kills on .412 hitting and had two blocks. Hannah Doss had nine kills, one fewer than teammate Kennady Thompson. Setter Maleah Neely had five kills of her own, along with 39 assists, four service aces and seven digs.

Guilford’s Taylor Creed (Randleman, N.C./Southern Guilford) led all students with 12 kills on .269 hitting and also had three blocks. Casey Davis (Thomasville, N.C./Trinity) hit .318 with 10 kills, five digs and two blocks. Both Creed and Davis accounted for 14 points in the contest. Steffi Dutton picked up a club-high 12 digs and Maile Munro set up 31 assists. Becca Benfield had seven kills on .294 hitting and two blocks.

Coach Emily Gann’s Quakers (6-16, 2-9 ODAC) host Washington and Lee University Saturday (10/25) at 1:00 p.m. in an ODAC contest in the Ragan-Brown Field House. Guilford will honor its three seniors prior to the start of the game.
